The SRB Test Kit is designed to detect the presence of sulfate reducing bacteria (SRB) in water samples from closed-loop or process systems. These anaerobic microorganisms can contribute to microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC), leading to pitting, system damage, and reduced equipment lifespan. By identifying SRB activity early, this test supports proactive maintenance, effective biocide treatment, and long-term system reliability.
Please note: all samples must be returned by post at the customer’s own cost. This is not included in the test price.
What are Sulfate Reducing Bacteria (SRB)?
SRB are a group of anaerobic bacteria that thrive in oxygen-deprived environments and use sulfate as an energy source. Their metabolic activity produces hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), a corrosive gas that can damage metal surfaces, particularly in stagnant or low-flow areas of water systems. Regular monitoring for SRB is critical in preventing microbial corrosion and maintaining system integrity.
